* Bitter Fruit šŸ‘‰Casting CallšŸ‘ˆ *

TW: Miscarriage, pregnancy loss
Unpaid roles

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Bitter Fruit is a short tragicomic film about the struggles a woman faces when she finally decides to try for a baby, only to discover her body has other plans. Shot in single takes on Super 8, the film will be nostalgic in feel, whilst approaching a problem that people still face all too often today — the pain of recurrent miscarriage.

FROM THE DIRECTOR

I was inspired to write Bitter Fruit based on the experiences of several friends and colleagues who went through recurrent miscarriages - painful experiences that they often went through alone or solely with their partners. Although I’ve discovered, both anecdotally and through research, that miscarriage and recurrent miscarriages are incredibly common, there is still so much stigma around the subject. I hope to tell a story that is funny, poignant, and ultimately gets people talking about this painful, and often lonely, experience.

Shooting on Super 8 is a new challenge for me, so I’m looking for cast members who are up for an adventure in filmmaking, with the potential of powerful and exciting results.

PRODUCTION DETAILS:

Shoot date: one day shoot 20th, 24th or 27th January, based on actor availability

Location: NW London (Willesden Green)

Director: Kristin Duffy

Contract type: Unpaid; food & London transport provided

Production Company: Slackline Productions

ROLES:

Clem, Lead (Female, playing age 35-42)

Clem has spent most of her ā€œfruitfulā€ years unsure about having a baby. When she finally tries, she finds that she truly wants to have a baby and that she doesn’t have trouble getting pregnant, only struggles to stay that way.

Based on the nature of filming in single takes, the actor playing Clem should be happy rehearsing scenes for movement and timing, then showing their prowess as a ā€œone-take wonderā€!
Additionally, all dialogue will be recorded as voiceover prior to the shoot, based on actor availability.

Clem’s friends (Any, playing age 30s, 40s, 60+)

Small supporting roles as friends & family of Clem who urge her to have a baby but worry when she becomes obsessed after pregnancy loss.

Based on the nature of filming in single takes, actors should be happy rehearsing scenes for movement and timing, then showing their prowess as a ā€œone-take wonderā€!
