ASME Technical Papers: Driving Innovation in Thermal Measurement.

After such a busy and successful week at ASME Turbo Expo this year in Milan, SCS looks back at the success of last year’s 𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐫-𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 investigating 𝐡𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧-𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 using 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 (𝐓𝐇𝐂𝐬) to map temperatures inside a 𝘚𝘪𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘚𝘎𝘛-800 𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘦.

The study generated over 20,000 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬, demonstrating how even modest hydrogen enrichment significantly increases local component temperatures and highlighting the need for enhanced cooling strategies. The work reinforces the value of 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡-𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 in validating combustor designs and supporting the transition to lower-carbon fuels.
