Two bits of care news today for England.

One is a report showing the variations in care depending on where people live. More than 1 in 3 councils assessed by the regulator were rated 'requires improvement'. Concerns included weaknesses in protecting people at serious risk (safeguarding), long waits and support for unpaid carers.

The second is a new government Unpaid Carers Action Plan. The aim is to help unpaid carers be "recognised earlier, connected to support services more easily, and better supported in their health, education and employment". A welcome move. Especially as many of the people we support on our adviceline don't recognise themselves as 'carers'.

Choosing a care home can be a big decision. Picking one that's right for you, where you'll be supported with what's important to you.

We know from our adviceline that people are often making this decision at an emotional time, with a mix of feelings. Thinking about this as early as possible, and having information on what to look for, can really help.

We were on BBC You and Yours today talking about evictions from care homes.

This is an issue we hear about consistently via our adviceline. Today's focus was on people who pay for their own care, run out of money and then facing being moved to a cheaper care home by the local authority.

One of our expert advisers, Emma, gave some tips and advice to anyone facing an eviction.
