BEAMA, the British Electrotechnical and Allied Manufacturers' Association are warning ministers that new smart energy rules need realistic timelines, or risk slowing the rollout of heat pumps, EV chargers and home batteries.
BEAMA has called for practical delivery pathways for the Government’s Smart and Secure Electricity Systems programme, arguing that product rules must reflect how technologies are designed, tested, certified and brought to market.
The programme is intended to make devices such as heat pumps, EV charge points and battery storage systems operate safely, securely and flexibly across the electricity system.
That matters because consumer-led flexibility is expected to become a major part of the UK’s clean power system.

📣INDUSTRY NEWS
More than 100 major companies—including firms such as Nestlé, IKEA, Uber and Volvo Cars have argued that dependence on fossil fuels exposes businesses to volatile energy prices, geopolitical shocks, and supply-chain risks. They say electrification can improve energy security and long-term competitiveness. In simple terms: companies want energy that is cheaper, more predictable, and less dependent on international oil and gas markets.
The UK has ambitious climate and clean-energy goals, but businesses often complain that infrastructure is not being built quickly enough. Industry groups have repeatedly called for faster grid expansion, stronger EV policies, and incentives for electrification in homes and industry. Some businesses have also criticised government moves that could weaken electric vehicle targets, arguing that policy uncertainty discourages investment.
