As someone who comes from a deep technical background and also an artistic background I agree with the sentiment of other artists who ask why one would get ChatGPT, or any other similar AI, to produce art (drawings, poems, writing, music and anything else born out of the truly human experience) when we could get it to deal with the mundane tasks to free us up to spend more time on the more artistic pursuits (or whatever you consider a hobby you do not have so much time for).

I'm going to follow the Getty Images versus Stability case closely too. It seems clear in that case that the work is derivative with no recompense to original artists.

And here is an interesting article from the VC perspective, where no doubt they're frothing at the mouth and expecting wildly fantastic ROI, containing my favourite quote of the day:

"Narratives based on zero data are accepted as self-evident."

These things are just tools, and I've seen chatgpt be consistently wrong and break so far although it is impressive, and should not be seen as replacements for creative people, teams or departments. It is interesting, albeit very sad, to watch the FAANG and MS giants simultaneously announce billion dollar investments in this stuff, and metaverse, whilst also laying off thousands of people. Your people should be your primary investment.
