Our Curator, Olwen Foulkes, takes a closer look at this remarkable manuscript, written in Mozart’s own hand 📜🎶
Dating from around 1782–3, this beautifully preserved manuscript captures the first 20 bars of the fugue from Handel’s ‘Suite in F’ (HWV 427). Originally written for the harpsichord, Mozart reimagined the piece for a string quartet. Although it is not known whether he completed the transcription, the manuscript offers an insight into how he engaged with and imagined Handel’s music.
Explore the fascinating connection between these two master musicians in our special exhibition, ‘Handel Through Mozart’s Eyes’, on display until September 2026

Handel’s Salon returns this May–June 🎶
Our new programme is now live and available to book.
Bringing music and ideas back into the rooms where Handel once lived and worked, Handel’s Salon offers a fresh way to explore his world and legacy.
This season includes Nathaniel Mander’s 'Handel Through Mozart’s Eyes', an intimate recital pairing Handel’s keyboard works with music by one of his greatest admirers, Mozart - reflecting the story at the heart of our current exhibition, 'Handel Through Mozart’s Eyes'.
Alongside the concerts, 'The Ear of the Beholder' offers a different kind of Salon, as author Huon Mallalieu joins our lead curator Claire Davies as they discuss his book and explore how artists have captured sound in visual form, with connections to Handel’s own art collection and the world he inhabited.
