✨️Breed Spotlight Day✨️
Today out breed spotlight is solely focused on Pomeranians and to show us his the best of the bunch is Teddy✨️
Background;
Poms decend from the bigger breeds in the spritz family, such as the finnish spritz and keeshond. Originally weighing around 22kg the Poms were downsized by our royal family after the breed gained popularity in the 19th century.
Queen Charlotte was the first person to bring the "wolf dogs" back to England before Queen Victoria fell so in love with the breed she built a breeding kennel to establish them in England.
Grooming;
Pomeranians have a high maintenance double coated. This means that not only do they shed A LOT they also need a lot of brushing. The best way to maintain their coat is with frequent bath and desheds along a light trim to help prevent the coat from getting too long. As popularised in American and Japan some people prefer to have their Poms clipped into a "teddy bear" cut. This usually results in shaving or sc******ng down the Poms coat to make them in to a neat little ball. Whilst this is a beautiful look it can also have long lasting affects such as alopecia due to coat damage. Even though this is a risk it doesn't always happen and many steps can be taken to prevent such damage. In terms of at home grooming, detailing spray and a slicker brush will be your best friend! Always brush dogs through with detailing spray as this prevents the ends from breaking and causing more tangles and make sure to go back through with a trusting metal comb🫶🏻
