In the middle of a busy week, when maybe expectations are high and we are struggling to fit everything in, we turn to you, our loving Lord God, for only in you can we find true rest and tranquillity. But for some of us, it may be that this week already seems to be long and the days are dragging by. Perhaps we are on our own, hoping for someone to call or to visit; we are waiting anxiously for an appointment or for test results or a job interview, and we long for that burden to be lifted, for peace of mind, and for someone to share our load. However we are feeling today, Lord, may we be aware of your presence with us, holding us, meeting our need and assuring us of your loving care.
Amen

If we are looking for stability and security in our lives, Lord God, we soon discover that we will not find it in anything that the world offers us. For those things that seem to promise so much and are often valued highly – power, position, possessions – at the end of the day are all doomed to failure and can never give true satisfaction or fulfilment. They will always disappoint and let us down. It is only when we turn to you, Lord, that life takes on a whole new dimension. Not only do we find new meaning and purpose in our lives, but that we are investing in a relationship and a kingdom that ‘shall outlast the years’ – in a fullness of life which is ours now and lasts forever. Give us the confidence and the courage we need, Lord, to go out as your people and share what we have found, and to do it in ways that speak of your love.
Amen

In the ups and downs of this week, in times of joy and of difficulty, we thank you for all those situations when we have been aware of your presence, Lord God, for you are a faithful God! You aren’t like those ‘fair-weather’ friends who seem to be unavailable just when we need them, or like those who blow hot and cold, and we are never quite sure where we are with them. Whatever the season of our faith, in the newness and growth of its springtime, or in the winter of doubt; in its summer fullness or its harvest fruitfulness, you have always been there for us with your love and gentle encouragement, often putting those alongside us to be ministers of your Holy Spirit to help and guide us. There is no ‘shadow of turning’ with you, Lord – may that be true of us too!
Amen
