🚨 BREAKING NEWS 🚨

Cody Roberts just took a plea deal. If this is what “accountability” looks like in Wyoming, the system is broken.

In February 2025, Roberts ran a young female wolf down with a snowmobile, taping her mouth shut, dragged her into a bar as a spectacle, and then killed her. And now, instead of facing a public trial, he’s signed a deal that would keep him out of jail.

Here’s what that deal looks like: one count of felony animal cruelty, an 18-month to 2-year prison sentence that’s suspended, 18 months of supervised probation, and a $1,000 fine. Reported conditions include no hunting or fishing, no alcohol and no bars/liquor stores, and compliance with recommended treatment. The deal reportedly blocks Roberts from hunting or fishing only during probation—after that, he could be back in the field—or on a snowmobile—with the main limits hinging on whether/when his firearm rights can be restored under felony restrictions.

A suspended sentence for an act this brutal isn’t justice. It’s a warning sign.

When cruelty becomes “negotiable,” the message spreads fast: wolves are expendable, and the consequences for violence against them can be managed.

If the courts won’t draw a hard line here, the public has to.
