Let’s find out what lies beneath.
In 1841, Warrington’s Mote Hill was cleared to build an orphanage.
Dr James Kendrick later recorded finds from the site, including jet chess pieces, and his report remains one of the key pieces of the Warrington Castle story.
But by modern archaeological standards, there are still questions to ask.
Could more evidence survive beneath the modern landscape?
That is why we are raising funds for the next professional phase of investigation.
There are 7 days left on the Kickstarter.
If you care about Warrington’s history, please back the campaign, share the link, or help us reach someone who might support it.

Drone survey has helped us look again at the landscape around Warrington’s lost castle.
The project is using digital survey, historic maps and archaeological advice to understand what may survive beneath the modern landscape near St Elphin’s and Church Street.
Now we need to test the evidence properly.
There are 8 days left on the Kickstarter to fund the next professional phase of investigation.
