Challenger Sonny Liston entered the ring as the overwhelming favourite despite Floyd Patterson being the reigning heavyweight champion.
Just over two minutes into the opening round, Liston unleashed a crushing right uppercut followed by a devastating combination that left Patterson unable to beat the count.

Micky Ward earned a unanimous decision over Emanuel Augustus (then Emanuel Burton), improving his record to 37-10 in a fight that showcased incredible heart, skill and non-stop action.
The bout was deservedly named The Ring Magazine Fight of the Year and remains one of the greatest action fights of the modern era.
