At Cheltenham Festival 2026, nearly 1 million reusable cups were used across the four-day event, helping to divert around 10 tonnes of single-use plastic from landfill. With hundreds of thousands of racegoers attending and over 400,000 pints of Guinness poured, the scale of the operation was enormous — and so was the impact.

Behind the scenes, our team worked around the clock to keep the system running smoothly. With 10 Event Managers and 50 Cup Crew members, reusable cups were constantly collected, washed, and redistributed across the racecourse to ensure bars stayed stocked and service remained seamless.

As part of The Jockey Club’s wider sustainability strategy, reusable cups at Cheltenham Festival are helping prove that world-class sporting events and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.
