πŸ’š Cooking, learning and saving together.

Last week, our Affordable Warmth and Health, Wellbeing & Inclusion teams joined forces at Middlesbrough Live Well Centre for another fantastic Heat & Eat session.

Together, we explored simple ways to cook healthy, affordable meals while saving energy at home. Participants learned about energy efficiency, gas safety and carbon monoxide awareness before getting hands-on in the kitchen, making fresh two-ingredient bagels, a waste-free egg frittata and a colourful side salad.

Small changes can make a big difference – helping you save money, reduce food waste and enjoy nutritious meals.

This week, our team took a well-earned break to enjoy a vegan picnic lunch organised by Rebecca - one of the fantastic Dietetics students from Teesside University who has been working with us.

While the hot weather meant a last-minute move indoors and into the shade, it was still a fantastic opportunity to come together and explore how simple food choices can support both our wellbeing and the planet.

Using ingredients from our Sandy Flatts allotment and local Eco Shops where possible, Rebecca created delicious vegan versions of picnic favourites, alongside plenty of fresh fruit to help everyone stay hydrated in the heat.

A huge thank you to Rebecca for leading such a thoughtful session, encouraging us to think about sustainable eating, the importance of taking proper lunch breaks and how local, seasonal produce can make a real difference. πŸ’š

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS! Make a difference in your community this summer! 🌞

We’re excited to be hosting two community volunteering events this summer – and we'd love you to come along, pull up your sleeves and get involved.

Join us at the Sandy Flatts Community Allotment in Acklam on 16 July and 6 August 2026 from 10am–2pm as we work together to transform our growing spaces.

Together, we'll be:
🌿 Weeding and clearing overgrown areas
🌱 Sowing seeds and planting
πŸ… Creating thriving spaces for sustainable food growing and community wellbeing

Whether you're a seasoned gardener or simply looking to spend a few hours doing something positive, these sessions are a fantastic opportunity to get involved, learn new skills, meet like-minded people and enjoy the benefits of spending time outdoors.

Volunteering is a great way to boost your wellbeing, connect with others and give back to your local community. Every helping hand makes a real difference and helps us create greener, healthier and more connected neighbourhoods for everyone.

All equipment is provided, and we'll have free tea and refreshments available throughout the day. β˜•

These events are part of Communities Growing Together, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, supporting sustainable growing and collective action across our communities.
