This project was to renovate the conservatory on the main property with new windows and a SupaLite roof, fit new windows and doors in existing outbuildings as well as renovate the interiors, build a new glass roof conservatory to be used as a greenhouse and to reconstruct the large wall behind the greenhouse as well as many other smaller alterations/additions to the whole property.

When it came to the conservatory on the main property our customer wanted to make it so it was usable all year round but also so that it looked the part alongside his property and all the other work we were carrying out, this is why we kept the existing dwarf walls on the conservatory.

Beware of clad over installations! ❌

A clad over is when an installer tries to pass off an untested basic timber addition, low-grade tiles and plasterboard for a patented, building regulations compliant, tiled roof, ultimately causing harm to both the conservatory and the homeowner.

Rather than replacing the whole conservatory roof, the installer will take out the old polycarbonate sheets, directly fix timber battens to the pre-existing rafters, which are unsuitable to take the additional weight bearing of tiles, and plaster over to mask any potential issues.

This causes structural risks as a conservatory frame just isn’t strong enough to bear the weight of two roofs.
