🏉🧠 Rugby Minds Consent Workshops

Last week, and sat down to have honest conversations about the importance of consent. Players were part of three discussions that focused on topics of:

1. Understanding what sexual violence and harassment are.
2. Taking action: How to step in when something doesn’t feel right, the importance of accountability and how to spot early warning signs.
3. Support and report: What services are available at the university and in our local community, how to show up for someone who shares an experience and what gets in the way of speaking out.

Women’s Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the country and is the only thing saving declining participation rates of rugby in the UK. It’s here to stay but it needs better visibility and greater respect. Equality must be met in access and opportunity for women and girls to play.

We’ve made a push with the Men’s clubs to work towards greater equality for the women’s team this year; it has not changed overnight and it is still nowhere near where it needs to be, but it has taken strong individuals from both the Men’s and Women’s clubs to make change. Change only comes from pro-active ally’s.
