Have you ever considered what would happen if you lost the ability to make decisions due to an illness or accident?
How would your critical illness or income protection claims be managed?
Who would ensure your financial affairs are taken care of or that your children are looked after?
Without proper preparation, your loved ones may face significant delays, legal challenges, and financial stress during a time when quick action is crucial.
Golden Rock Solutions, a trusted partner for families in mortgages and protection against life’s risks, has taken a significant step forward by teaming up with Westwood Estate Planning. Together, they offer a streamlined and holistic approach to ensure your family has both the financial support and the legal authority to act swiftly in times of need.
The Risks of Losing Mental Capacity
Imagine being in a coma or otherwise incapacitated. While you may have protection plans in place, such as critical illness or income protection insurance, your family cannot access these benefits without your consent. In such situations, they would need to go through court proceedings to gain the authority to act on your behalf—a process that is not only expensive but also time-consuming.
Unfortunately, financial emergencies don’t wait for court orders, leaving families in a precarious position when they need funds immediately. Most home owners have seen the following statement from their Mortgage provider: Your home is at risk if you do not keep up the repayments!
A Holistic Solution: Protection and Estate Planning
The partnership between Golden Rock Solutions and Westwood Estate Planning bridges this gap by combining financial protection with proactive legal planning. This approach ensures your family can both claim your benefits and manage your affairs seamlessly in the event of a health decline or loss of mental capacity.
Key to this solution is the use of Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). An LPA allows you to nominate trusted individuals, such as family members or close friends, to make financial and health-related decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so. With an LPA in place, your representatives can immediately access insurance benefits, manage your accounts, and make critical decisions without the need for court intervention.
Additionally, estate planning tools like wills and trusts provide further layers of protection, ensuring that your assets are distributed according to your wishes and that your children are cared for by individuals you designate.
What This Means for You
By integrating protection plans with estate planning, Golden Rock Solutions and Westwood Estate Planning provide peace of mind. Not only are your finances safeguarded, but the mechanisms are also in place to ensure they can be accessed promptly when needed most. This holistic approach eliminates unnecessary delays and legal hurdles, empowering your family to focus on supporting you during challenging times.

As the festive season nears, it's indeed a wonderful time for reflection—not just on personal milestones but also on the practical aspects that keep families secure. Reviewing key areas like mortgages, life insurance, illness protection, and overall financial health is a proactive way to ensure peace of mind as we head into the new year.
After all “Your home is at risk if you do not keep up the repayments” a statement every Mortgage Owner has seen…
Here are some reasons why now is the perfect time for such a review:
1. Rising Costs and Underinsurance
• Inflation Impact: Costs for housing, medical care, and daily essentials have risen. This means the protection you arranged years ago might no longer provide sufficient coverage in the event of a claim.
• Overpaying: Conversely, you may find you're paying for features you no longer need or that newer policies could offer better value for money.
2. Family Growth or Changes
• New additions to the family, career changes, or even a move to a new home can affect your financial priorities. A review ensures your insurance and mortgage arrangements align with your current circumstances.
3. Mortgage Protection
• Interest rates have fluctuated significantly in recent years. Reviewing your mortgage ensures you're not paying more than necessary and that the terms align with your future plans.
• Mortgage protection insurance should also be reassessed, ensuring it covers outstanding balances adequately.
4. Critical Illness and Life Insurance
• Modern policies now cover a broader range of illnesses or provide additional benefits. Updating your plan might grant access to improved terms, ensuring you're fully protected against life's uncertainties.
• Beneficiaries and payout amounts should reflect your family’s current needs.
5. Income Protection
• Some families have a sick pay through their employment contact however how long could they pay the mortgage and lifestyle costs after that. A cost-effective solution to cover these know costs is income protection. Meaning when sick pay stops paying you do not loose your home and food is on the table
