Over the past two years, we have worked hard to embed digital play and learning throughout our nursery, and we are incredibly proud to have achieved the Digital Schools Award.

A huge thank you to our wonderful children, families, and amazing staff team who have supported us on this journey. Our staff have embraced every opportunity to learn, develop their skills, and embed digital learning into everyday practice, and this achievement is a testament to their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication.

We are also especially grateful to our parents and carers for completing questionnaires, providing resources, and sharing such positive feedback along the way. Your support has been invaluable.

This award recognises the commitment of our whole nursery community, and we are excited to continue developing digital learning opportunities for our children.

On Friday the pre-school children visited St Ninians Primary School for their first Play on Pedals session. The children were excited and curious as they entered the playground area where the bikes and equipment were set up.

During the session, the children were introduced to the different parts of a pedal bike, including the wheels, pedals, handlebars and seat. Abbey used visual flashcards to help the children recognise and name each part. The children were encouraged to point to the parts on the bikes and repeat their names, which helped build their understanding of the equipment.

A key focus of today’s session was balance and bike knowledge. The children were shown how to safely put on and adjust their helmets, learning the importance of safety before riding. Staff supported the children to ensure helmets were fitted correctly and comfortably.

The children were also introduced to the “M Check”, which helps riders check that their bike is safe to ride. Abbey demonstrated how to carry out the safety check, encouraging the children to look at different parts of the bike to make sure everything was ready before using it. This helped the children begin to understand the importance of checking their equipment before riding.

Several balancing exercises were included to help develop coordination and confidence. The children practised picking up their bikes safely, gliding, and balancing while holding the handlebars. Many children showed determination and enthusiasm as they attempted the new skills, encouraging one another and celebrating small successes.

Overall, the children engaged well in their first Play on Pedals session. They demonstrated growing confidence, listening skills, and an awareness of bike safety. The session provided a positive introduction to cycling while supporting the development of balance, coordination, and physical wellbeing.
