How do you bring a world-class piano competition to more than 33,000 viewers around the world? 🌍

For UCan Play, the team behind recording and livestreaming the Hastings International Piano Competition, the goal wasn’t to create a polished or exaggerated sound.

It was to capture the emotion, dynamics and atmosphere of the performance and share it with audiences far beyond the concert hall. 🎹

We were delighted to welcome Alene Lautenschlager, our current Sontronics Scholarship winner for Abbey Road Institute London, to our facility in Poole recently 🎤

During her visit, Alene spent time with our production team learning more about how our microphones are made, and even had the chance to hand-build one of our DM-1B microphones herself.

We think it’s important that people starting out in the industry get the opportunity to see how the tools they use are actually made. Hand-building our microphones allows us to maintain consistency and attention to detail, and it was a pleasure to share part of that process with someone at the beginning of their professional journey.
