Pearls of Wisdom Wednesday: “If you want your children to improve, let them overhear the nice things you say about them to others.”
Ever heard of the term, ‘Positive Gossip’?
It’s all about your child ‘accidentally’ being within earshot as you speak highly of them to others because hearing praise in an indirect manner helps them, over time, to build an authentic, lasting confidence that shapes how they see themselves.
It can be an especially powerful and effective tool for children with ADHD, Autism and other additional needs, particularly those who struggle to accept any kind of positive feedback or recognition due to the difficulties they face with emotional dysregulation and poor self regard/esteem.
‘Indirect praise’ can bypass the natural defences of these individuals, validate their self-worth and actually reinforce the positive behaviours they want to live up to.
Of course, you might be going through a phase right now in which there doesn’t seem to be anything worth celebrating, rather you feel as if you’re drowning under the pressure of the challenging behaviours with which you’re faced on a daily basis!
If you’ve reached that point or you’ve recognised you’re heading that way, now’s the time to book a no-obligation chat with me, a parenting coach with 20+ years of experience, because two heads are definitely better than one!
A no-obligation chat will give you the opportunity to talk through your situations, allow us to create a plan of action together and provide you with a raft of practical tips that are easy to implement.
For the record, those who know me will tell you that I’m all about ideas that result in win-win outcomes for all parties as well as strengthen those all important parent-child relationships!
I’m also known for an Observe, Do, Review approach because it’s an effective method for learning and implementation that doesn’t require too much effort from you to get the results you want and deserve!
Simply DM me or write ‘chat’ in the comments box and I’ll take it from there!
Do leave a comment below and/or tag anyone for whom this post would be useful.

‘5 ways to beat the Monday morning blues!’
A a parent of 4 children, one of whom had a formal diagnosis of ADHD as a child, I know how easy it can be to come down with a case of the Monday blues whether you’ve had a weekend of fun or not!
However, if you catch yourself slipping into this mindset, remember there are a number of ways you can turn your Monday around:
• Make a list of priorities to stay organised
• Take a walk outside to recharge
• Schedule something during the week to look forward to
• Identity the cause and find a solution to ease your mind!
• Don’t be afraid to seek out some help and support if you get stuck!
To be fair it’s not always easy to identify solutions to your ‘scaries’, questions or concerns at the best of times, especially when you’re also trying to manage your child with their presenting challenges on a daily basis, is it?
That’s where I can come in and offer some assistance…
I’m Lyn and for 20+ years I’ve been supporting parents to better manage and deal with the challenges that arise when raising a child with ADHD, Autism and other additional needs, so I’m ready for anything.
