BREAKING: A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Kimberworth Park, Rotherham, on suspicion of the murder of former MP and MEP Ann Widdecombe.

The arrest was carried out on Saturday evening by South Yorkshire Police, supported by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, on behalf of Devon & Cornwall Police. The suspect remains in police custody.

Police have stressed there is currently nothing to suggest the investigation is terrorism-related or politically motivated, and they are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case. They have urged people not to speculate while inquiries continue.

SHEFFIELD TRAFFIC ALERT | ROADWORKS STARTING THIS WEEKEND

If you’re travelling around Sheffield this weekend or into next week, there are a number of roadworks and closures beginning across the city. Please allow extra time for your journey.

Starting Saturday 11 July

* Bridgehouses Roundabout – Lane closures for Cadent Gas works (until 24th July).
* Cemetery Road – Multi-way traffic signals in place.
* Parkway Drive – Lane closures expected throughout the weekend.

From Sunday 12 July

Several major Sheffield City Council improvement works get underway, with road closures expected to remain in place until October on a number of routes, including:

* City Road
* Cricket Inn Road
* Don Road
* Effingham Road
* Greenland Road
* Highgate
* Leveson Street
* Myrtle Road
* Orgreave Road
* Richmond Road
* Rotherham Road
* Saxonlea Crescent
* St Lawrence Road
* Sussex Street
* Woodbourn Road

Other locations with temporary traffic controls over the coming days include:

* Herries Road
* Manor Lane
* Shepcote Lane
* Woodbourn Road
* Carlisle Street East
* Far Lane
* Jenkin Road
* Livesey Street
* Greenwood Crescent
* Pexton Road

Also this weekend

* Junction Road will be closed on Sunday for a local market event.

If you’re planning to head into the city, Meadowhall, the Parkway or anywhere around the Inner Ring Road, it’s worth checking your route before setting off as delays are likely.
