Volaticus has been a long running opportunity for students at Sheffield to use their creativity and knowledge of design - here are some fun facts about the project, and the UAV we plan to manufacture!

🟡Volaticus is back, and flying high in 2021!🟡

Looking over the design process so far, there were some great initial concept sketches that the team came up with from last year - in the beginning, almost everything was up in the air, from the shape of the nose to the style of landing gear, even the viability of a blended wing body design against the standard tube and wing.

With the freedom to experiment in the early stages, it was amazing to see the variety and ingenuity in designs. But having hashed and rehashed, taking on board perspective from each subteam, some key specifications were settled on, and we are now in the process of drafting out the design report for the final stretch (which will hopefully have us on the runway, ready to see our work in action!)
