Positive news for the farming community.

Following sustained lobbying efforts, Defra has announced that farmers with Countryside Stewardship Mid-Tier agreements expiring this year will be offered a one-year extension.
This decision will enable over 5,000 farmers to maintain their environmental and sustainable farming activities while longer-term schemes undergo review.

The Rural Payments Agency will contact eligible participants directly with full details of the extension offer.

A significant step forward in providing stability for those committed to environmental stewardship.

🚜 Big news for farmers affected by the sudden closure of SFI25 in England! 🌱

After industry pressure, Defra has listened—those who started an application but didn’t submit within two months of closure on 11th March 2025 can now apply, with a maximum claim of £9,300 per application. Eligible applicants will be contacted by the RPA and given a six-week window to make an application.

Please note that only one application may be submitted per farm business. Importantly, agreement holders should be aware that they will not be able to add more land to rotational actions after year 1 in these agreements.

Whilst this is a restricted version of the scheme we were working towards, it is good news to many who were let down at the last minute.

Some good news on the Capital Grant scheme. DEFRA have announced today that the 4,040 pending applications will continue to be processed under the scheme guidance prior to the pause.

The scheme will open again later this year with spending caps under four separate categories.
