Cake Recreation

The first of six Christmas cakes being delivered. Tentatively and very carefully on our way now to take it to my parents. We have an early Christmas dinner with my Aunt and Uncle on Monday. Hope they like it.

My Dad made the cake and I offered to decorate it as a present for them.

Fingers crossed it arrives in one piece, the road around here is shocking

What Have I done!

I had a message from a good friend who knew I’d made cakes. It was a request for a birthday cake for her Mum who is 100 today! 😊🎂. It started with just the cake and they would find a cake topper. Me and my big mouth said “what would you like? I can model things if you give me a brief…”

Her response was “her in her garden, which is gravelled, flowers in plant pots, a visiting fox, a highland terrier, ginger cat, green budgie, hedgehog! Oh, and butterflies on flowers.

Gulp! So last weekend I started the modelling, and felt quite demoralised when my lovely supportive husband said the fox needed improvement. He was right and had verbalised my inner thoughts. So. back to it. I decided to remodel the cat, the fox and at my friends request, her Mum as well.

The outcome is attached. Fingers crossed they like what I’ve done, I will know tomorrow when it’s collected!

GULP! Postscript 27 May 2022 My friend came to collect the cake last night, and it all went well. I was so relieved, that she liked it and thought no more about it. Later I checked Facebook and was stunned, but of course delighted by the lovely comments! I’m very critical of my work and have spent hours doing the cake; only saw what I thought wasn’t quite right… It was a pleasure to make it for someone who had done me many a favour in the past. I sincerely hope that the Birthday Girl (Lady) likes it…

I am new to Facebook in comparative terms to most.

Recently I had two requests for cakes following my post on the garden cake for my friends’ Mum’s 100 Birthday. It woke my desire to start making and decorating cakes again. I used to do many before our children were born. Extremely regretfully I never made a birthday cake for either of our children…. However over the last few years my passion has been recovered, having made cakes for colleagues and teams at work for Christmas.

Having done so for the past few years I decided to set up a page, can you believe it, just as the pandemic hit! I have an innate sense of timing!

Back went all the equipment into storage.

More recently I decided to republish and resurrect my page, to my own surprise, and was contacted by a friend for the lady in the garden cake. Since then I have received two requests. One has just been collected.

The cake was for a Ruby Wedding Anniversary and was collected a short while ago. I hope they had a wonderful day!

The second is yet to be baked and covered, check here in a few weeks to see the next commission… in the meantime here is the Ruby Wedding cake, with hand modelled roses (first time in 30+ years)
