Communication is everything, overcommunicating is better than poor communication.

We were out on the road till 11 pm last night ensuring perishable deliveries were completed. If they aren't delivered on the day the boxes are binned and Tango is fined.

But this could have been averted, first with the driver letting us know early of any issues and then with us taking a more proactive attitude.

As much as we explicitly ask the drivers to update us with any issues, newbies tend to get caught up in the emotion and difficulties of the first days focusing more on getting through it - this job is challenging, the learning curve is steep.

So, what can we do moving forward - better on the road training emphasising what exactly should be communicated, and that's what we'll focus on the next few days!!

Cost saving - MPG

One huge factor that affects the P/L of a parcel delivery company is the mpg of vans. It is seriously underestimated, can turn profit into loss, and is influenced by two main factors:

1. Driving performance
2. Van performance

Harsh acceleration and braking can affect fuel usage, as can the tyre inflation, buildup of gunk throughout the engine, use of ad blue and more.

We have installed telematics in our vans as a way of monitoring driver performance - it does make a difference. MPG of those drivers regularly speeding on the motorway, or accelerating quickly is lower than those drivers being more careful - 21 mpg compared to 28 mpg on average - where there are issues we look to educate.

Lately, we have started to keep an eye on tyre inflation and liquid levels, more than before. All our vans are fairly new and have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) - this can be kept clean by running the engine, in 5th gear with 2500 revs for about 20 minutes, once a week - sometimes the driver will feel a jolt as the particulate buildup is swept away.

Proactive engine maintenance is key to keeping your vans efficient, and staying away from losses. Moreover, downtime can be reduced ensuring drivers are on the road, earning money!

Pontualidade é essencial, se nao tiver experiencia com van vamos dar um driving assessmento para ensiná-lo os básicos e prevenir acidentes.

We require two motivated individuals to work within our Yodel team, no previous experience required, full paid training given.

Long-term position with contract!

You will be given:

1. Van - no rental
2. Fuel card
3. An above average stop rate - we want everyone earning £130+ (we can pay VAT also)
4. Full paid training - 2 days required
5. Fixed route - get to know your area and customers!
6. New performance related bonus scheme!
7. Self-employed contract
8. Accountants, if required, that will boost your income by 10% (flat rate scheme and VAT registration)

Time-management is essential, if you have no van experience we'll give you a driving assessment to teach you the basics and prevent accidents.
