Fantastic Food at The Old Parlour Café &
Spring Lane Farm Shop & Café .
If you are looking for a traditional, family-run farm shop with a stellar café attached, Spring Lane Farm Shop and The Old Parlour Café should be right at the top of your list.
Our main focus for the visit was The Old Parlour Café right next door to the shop. We arrived right at the peak of lunch, and the place was near capacity—always a great sign. The system here is seamless: staff greet you warmly at the door and show you to a table (assuming one is free, as it gets busy!), explaining that you head up to the counter to order when you're ready.
While waiting to order at the counter, you are face-to-face with a genuinely torturous, ultra-tempting display of cakes. Staying strong and not adding a slice to your order takes serious willpower.
Our food arrived impressively fast, likely because many surrounding tables were just enjoying lighter snacks, cakes, or drinks. The portions were massive and incredibly filling.
Here is what we had:
Chicken Schnitzel Caesar Salad (£14.50):
A massive plate of crisp romaine lettuce tossed in a rich, creamy parmesan dressing and crunchy croutons, topped with perfectly breaded chicken.
Deli Ham & Eggs (£14.50):
This featured excellent home-cured cold ham, free-range fried eggs, and sensational triple-cooked chips, served with a side of homemade coleslaw.
Jacket Potato with Cheese: Ordered by our mum, who happily gave it a glowing review as she sipped her tea.
To wash it all down, we treated ourselves to a couple of crisp Hawkstone lagers, which paired beautifully with the hearty lunch.
Whether you want a full meal or just a treat, they have you covered. Breakfast runs from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM, Lunch is served from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM, and drinks, cakes, and ice cream are available all day long.
The Farm Shop: Don't Go on an Empty Stomach!
After lunch, we wandered into the traditional farm shop. Word of warning: do not go in here hungry or your wallet will suffer because the fresh produce looks amazing.
Even with full stomachs from the café, we couldn’t resist picking up a few goodies to take home.
We purchased a delicious haul: fresh bread rolls, cakes, a sausage roll, a scotch egg, and a real blast from the past—a few slices of Haslet, which we haven't seen on a menu or in a shop for years!
Spring Lane Farm Shop and The Old Parlour Café offer the perfect combination of friendly, organized service, top-tier comfort food, and nostalgic local shopping. We will definitely be back!
