As we have shared with you last week, one of the most acute ways to test for pathogens is via a microscopic examination. There are, however, certain factors that need to be present in order to have an accurate result.
Firstly, the technicians analysing the slides – they are by far the most important variable when comparing labs. We pride ourselves on having the experience and expertise of Dr. Amin (PhD Parasitologist) and his well-trained team.
The other important success factor relates to the proper collection and transport of specimens. Here at PCI, we use the best transport system available on the market and we give patients detailed instructions on how to best collect their sample.

Time for a topic 🦠💊
The symbiotic organisms that live in and on the body are constantly at war with invasive organisms, protecting their environment - on and in us. However, they are drastically affected with the use of antibiotics in the form of medications but also from man-made hygiene products.
This is the case because antibiotic use kills all bacteria good or bad, leaving no competition for fungi, yeasts, and other parasitic organisms. To overcome the consequences of antibiotic use, we recommend Saccharomyces boulardii and a subsequent recolonization with probiotics.
If you are undergoing or have undergone an antibiotic treatment recently, it might be worth talking to a practitioner who can assess your current levels of gut health and advise you accordingly.

With the rapid growth of the holistic health industry in recent years, many practitioners have started to use biofeedback machines as a diagnostic tool with their clients. This machine measures the energy response of a patient to a particular stimulus that may originate from a parasite source.
Its benefit comes from the fact that it can give an indication that there may be an infection present but it is still not considered an accurate diagnostic test. It is merely an indicator of the possible future direction that the practitioner may decide to take with the client. Since this type of machine relates to frequency measuring, it should also be noted that only frequencies for certain groups of parasites are available to this date.

Due to the wide variety of intestinal parasites, a description of the symptoms rarely is sufficient for diagnosis. Instead, different laboratory tests are used to identify pathogenic infestations:
• Stool samples may be collected to search for the parasites and an adhesive tape may be applied to search for eggs.
• Swab cultures are taken for culturing and analysis of bacterial and fungal infections.
• Urine tests are used to evaluate the presence of protozoan, worm, fungus and bacteria
• Blood smear test is used for individuals with history if been bitten by bloodsucking insects – mosquitos, ticks, lice
• Additional investigative lab test – parasite ID and water analysis
That is another reason to work with an experienced practitioner so they can assess your health history and symptoms and choose the right test. If you need any guidance here, get in touch.
