Retail Mark Design

Based in Old Trafford, Manchester – Kaana, South Asian Canteen was designed to offer a scalable rice-and-three model with a street food café concept that feels rooted in its community. RM was tasked with creating a space that balances commercial viability with an inviting, authentic atmosphere, while retaining the charm of the building’s beloved original features.

The interior design emphasises a warm, layered material palette. Classic wood veneers were paired with rough plaster walls to add texture and tactility. Low bench seating encourages a communal dining experience, while bespoke copper light fittings and hammered copper ornaments introduce artisanal craftsmanship and a touch of elegance. These metallic accents also complement the earthy tones and create subtle contrasts throughout the space.

A key design decision was to retain and celebrate much of the building’s existing character, keeping a connection to its past while introducing modern updates. The layout prioritises flow and functionality, ensuring the grab-and-go service feels seamless while providing a comfortable space for dine-in patrons.

This project highlights how thoughtful materiality and a respect for context can create a space that feels both contemporary and timeless, making Kaana a unique addition to Old Trafford’s dining scene.

Chaiiwala Trafford Centre // This is the sixth project we have completed for the Chaiiwala brand and a true milestone. It has been a pleasure working with Chaiiwala and The Trafford Centre management to deliver this in-line kiosk in such a prominent location.

We were instructed to act as Principle Contractor, taking the initial kiosk concept to detailed design and planning stage. We were then tasked with bringing the approved design to reality by utilising our skilled in-house team to complete the fit-out and provide all the bespoke elements.

The kiosk design retains many of the signature elements used within in-line stores. The result is a striking, streamlined kiosk that delivers a wide ranging menu and stands out amongst the F&B options in the Mall.

After a thorough strategic review, interior design concept and brand repositioning, we provide a full turnkey solution which included the complete fitout of the 2 story building.

The new interior uses a combination of robust textures and materials that come together to create a unique branded experience.

The Belgian Waffle Co Manchester // Renders of our interior design and fit out project for the specialist dessert brand as it begins rolling out franchises. The brand approached RM to develop a new retail environment that would capture the attention of walk-in customers. We introduced a muted colour pallet and unique elements including a chocolate drip counter and bespoke waffle ceilings. Although the brand focus is on delivery and collection stores, the break-out seating options provide a branded experience for walk-in clients.

The new concept has been extremely successful, and we are now developing the concept for upcoming locations.
