Here's part of what we were really pleased to uncover today. Nearest the camera is a trough which lay under a privy bench. The intact floor beyond belonged to the covered part of a pigsty and the walls near the top of the photo enclosed the open part of the sty. The hole for the pigs to go in and out is at the far end of the floor to the right, and to the right of the yellow bucket is the step showing the position of the gate to the sty.

A really interesting piece of stonework came to light today. Dating from c1770-1845, we're still trying to work out exactly what it is!

More good progress today with replacement flooring, stopped-up doorways and bunged-up stoke-holes being the order of the day! While we were shaded from the sun by trees, dappled sunlight is definitely not great for archaeological photos.

More demolition rubble clearance today, next time this 250 year old building will be getting a good clean up.
