Financial Advice to Business Owners & High Achievers - worry less about money ~ live life to the full

Why am I sailing the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race?

I’ve been sailing on and off since by dad randomly went out and bought boat when I was boy. From family trips to Fastnet races. The ocean has always had a fascinating draw for me.

Before life passes me by and it’s too late, I want to truly put myself to the test.

This Friday, I’ll travel to Cape Town, South Africa for Leg 3 to sail through the formidable Southern Ocean.

This is one of, in not the toughest part of the planet to sail.

Why am I going it, people keep asking me. I’m doing it because I’ve always needed adventure in my life despite being a Financial Adviser.

It’s a chance for me to see how far I can push myself in a team when we’re cold, sleep deprived, and under pressure. An experience you can only earn through hard graft, teamwork, and endurance.

We’re not chasing records. Being ever so slightly competitive, I still want to race well, stay safe, and come home proud of how we worked together as a team. If we finish strong and still respect each other, that’s success. And if we can go for a beer in the Castle in Gosport afterwards, that s huge measure of success for me.

I’ve completed Ironman races and crushed myself on the squash court before, but this is different. It’s longer, tougher, and more uncertain. That’s the point.

You only find your edges by going past comfort.

I’m also raising funds for Promise Dreams, a small local charity that does incredible work for children facing serious illness. If courage defines this race, they live it every day.

I’ve put a link in the comments if you wish to make a donation.

I hope this inspires others to say “yes” when something comes along that scares you a little. Life’s too short to wait for the perfect moment.

Adventure doesn’t come to you. You have to go and find it.

Have you ever heard of FIRE? Financial Independence Retire Early – they call it.

Sounds like a dream, right?

Some of you are thinking of escaping the 9-to-5 grind while you're still young and have a ton of dreams to fulfill.

But is it as good as it sounds? Especially if you're a business owner, an entrepreneur, or a high achiever.

See, this FIRE thing, it's not all sunshine and rainbows.

Sure, the idea of retiring early and sipping cocktails on a beach somewhere might sound enticing.

But here's the kicker:

When you retire really early, who's going to be there to share those moments with you? Most of us will still be working.

That's right, you might end up with a lonely life, surrounded by empty lounge chairs and silence.

And here's another issue to consider:

When you hang up your work boots for good, you also stop contributing to the economy. Some would regard FIRE as being a little selfish.

No more hustle, no more grind, no more making things happen.

Now, I'm not saying don't aim for Financial Independence – you should, and you absolutely can.

But let me drop some truth bombs on you:

It's better to have the ability to retire but hold off, it's a balancing act.

You want to enjoy the fruits of your labour, but you also want to keep active.

So here's the lesson for you:

Don't rush into early retirement like it's a race to the finish line.

Instead, savour the journey, the experience, and the thrill of achievement.

Be sure to have a Financial independence plan.

Because in the end, it's not just about the money.

It's about the experiences and the impact you leave on this world.

So, keep your eyes on the prize, but don't forget to enjoy the ride.

Stay hungry, stay driven, and remember – you're not just building wealth; you're building a legacy.

So, you’re in your 50s …

The sands of time are slipping through your fingers …

The egg timer of life, it's ticking, and you've maybe go two decades of good living left to make the most of.

You might feel invincible today, your mind sharp as a tack, your body strong. But mark my words, the hourglass spares no one.

It's an undeniable truth that one day, our bodies will betray us.

So, what's the lesson here, you ask?

It's simple yet profound.

In this finite existence, we must walk the tightrope between seizing the day and building a future for those who follow in our footsteps.

This wisdom isn't reserved for the faint of heart.

No, it's for the business owners, the creators, the relentless high-achievers like you.

So, as the sands trickle away, remember to live for today, with all the gusto you can muster, while still seriously planning for a long life and the next generation.

It's a delicate dance, a balance that only the wise few master.

Time waits for no one, but it bows to those who understand its value.

So how will you make the most of the 20 good years that remain? The world is your canvas, and the legacy you create is in your hands.

Seize it. Cherish it. Make every second count.

And remember, you're not just living for today; you're building a future for generations to come.
