Voices from the Tackling Poverty Assembly – How AI Helped Every Voice Be Heard
How do you accurately capture the thoughts, ideas and experiences of more than 70 people taking part in multiple discussions—all at the same time?
At the Wrexham Poverty Action Collaboration (WPAC) Tackling Poverty Assembly, we used Dembrane, an innovative AI-powered digital listening tool that helped ensure every conversation contributed to the day's outcomes.
In this latest video from our Voices from the Tackling Poverty Assembly series, Lachlan Ayles, Programme Lead at Community Organisers, explains how Dembrane works and why it was chosen to support the Assembly.
Rather than relying solely on handwritten notes, participants' discussions were captured through mobile devices before being analysed by AI to identify key themes, priorities and action points. These insights could then be shared with everyone in the room within minutes, helping conversations build on one another throughout the day.
Lachlan describes Dembrane as a "digital listening tool" where AI helps "make sense of the conversation."
Importantly, he also explains the safeguards behind the platform, including robust GDPR compliance, EU-hosted data storage and automatic deletion of data after 30 days.
For TCC and our partners, the technology proved invaluable. It captured more detail than traditional note-taking, provided immediate feedback to participants and significantly reduced the time needed to collate and analyse the Assembly's discussions.

This Is Just the Beginning

Powerful Voices
One of the most memorable moments of the Assembly came through the power of words.
A moving spoken-word performance from Natasha Borton of Voicebox Wxm captured the reality of the cost-of-living crisis in a way that statistics alone never could.
Throughout the day, lived experience remained at the heart of every discussion.
Stories were shared.
Experiences were heard.
Communities were listened to.
These voices continue to shape the work of the collaboration.
