We can’t wait to welcome you at the Chirk Canal Celebration on Sunday (22nd of March) – The 225th anniversary of Chirk Aqueduct

We’re really looking forward to welcoming you to the Chirk Canal Celebration and wanted to share some important information ahead of the day to help everything run smoothly and safely so that everybody enjoys the event. It’s going to be lovely weather so please walk or use public transport where possible.

Travel to the event:

We kindly ask all visitors to park at the FREE Mondelez car park which is approximately ten minutes walk from the aqueduct. Using this car park will help us manage traffic and make the day more enjoyable for residents and visitors alike. Thank you for helping us make the event a success! And thank you Mondelez.

There is also a public car park in Chirk Town behind the Hand Hotel.

***Please do not park on Castle Road, Station Road, B4500 or residential streets adjacent to these streets as this will cause significant issues for the community***

🔵 Blue Badge Holders
We have a designated drop-off car park with limited capacity for Blue Badge Holders at Chirk Bank:

🚌 Shuttle Bus:
There will be a FREE hop-on and hop-off bus running between Chirk Town Centre bus stop, Station Road bus stop and the Mondelez car park. It will run in a continuous loop throughout the day. Why not hop on and take a trip to town to experience the wonderful independent shops and local heritage sites.

🚂 Train/Walk/Cycle:
If you’re coming from further afield, Chirk aqueduct is approximately a ten minute walk from Chirk train station. If you are walking from the town centre it will take approximately 15 minutes from The Hand Hotel. Cycling to the Aqueduct is one of the most eco-friendly ways of getting here. It takes approximately six minutes from Chirk train station.
Water Taxis:

Our free water taxis are available on the day on a first come, first served basis and have limited capacity
Toilets:

There will be accessible toilets available at Chirk Bank and at Caffi Wylfa (In the Carpark). There are also public toilets open in the centre of town.

📢❗️Accessibility Update – Chirk Canal Celebration
We wanted to share an important accessibility update for the upcoming Chirk Canal Celebration.

Sadly, on this occasion we are unable to operate the accessible disability boat that we had hoped to provide for the free water taxis. The boat requires its annual maintenance and inspection during the same week as the event. We are genuinely very sorry about this and know it will be disappointing. Providing an accessible boating experience was something we had really hoped to offer, and we did look into other options, but unfortunately there are no other accessible boats able to reach this section of the canal in time for the event.

We also recognise that parts of the site can be difficult to access, particularly the steep incline down to the canal from Chirk town. To help with this, we have arranged a Blue Badge drop-off and parking area at Chirk Bank, which provides level access to the aqueduct and canal towpath.

This is only our second community event, and we are constantly learning and looking for ways to improve how we make these events accessible and welcoming for everyone.

We really care about making events accessible for people of all abilities, and we would genuinely welcome any feedback or suggestions that could help us do better in the future.
