๐Ÿš’ Last week marked Opโ€™s Week for our wholetime firefighter recruits!

After 11 weeks of intensive training, Opโ€™s Week gives recruits the chance to put everything theyโ€™ve learned into practice through a series of realistic incident scenarios.

The week began at Norwich Airport , where recruits honed their breathing apparatus (BA) skills during a simulated aircraft fire. Working alongside the airport fire service, they experienced a realistic emergency response, entering the aircraft in BA after the airport crew had tackled the fire.

Later in the week, recruits took part in a water rescue exercise, where they were challenged to locate and treat multiple casualties in and around the water.

Today, they are taking their final exam, and we would like to wish them the very best of luck!

๐Ÿ‘A huge thank you to Red Watch at Norwich Airport Fire Service and Hellesdon Mill for supporting the exercises and allowing us to use your facilities.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Thanks to Private Air Travel for organising an innovation event to educate school and college staff about careers in blue light services.
Our engagement officer Gemma explained the different jobs in fire and rescue (wholetime and on-call firefighters, control staff and professional services teams). Our Earlham red watch crew popped by between callouts to show the kit and equipment used in emergencies.
The event provided a better understanding which participants can share with the young people they work with, to enable their careers to really take off in fire and rescue. ๐Ÿš’ โœˆ๏ธ

๐Ÿš’ Why do we keep talking about the risks of fires in Norfolkโ€™s open spaces?
๐Ÿซถ Because we want safe communities and avoidable fires are still happening. We need your help to keep our communities and our open spaces safe.

๐ŸŒณ ๐ŸŒฒ In the last week we have attended 54 fires on grassland, fields, forests and wooded areas, right across Norfolk.
๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ It also includes accidental bin fires along with barbecues and bonfires that are lit intentionally but get out of control.

โŽ Donโ€™t think it won't happen in your community.
๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿš’ ๐Ÿš’ This week we have been to grass, field and tree fires including across Norwich, in Loddon, Seething, Hellesdon, North Earlham, Little Fransham, Hunstanton, Emneth, Acle, Sloley, Mundford, Brundall, Reedham, Holme Hale, Frettenham, Hilgay, Taverham, Stanhoe, North Walsham, Methwold, Terrington, Kingโ€™s Lynn, Southery, Walcott, Dereham, Bradwell, Stibbard and Bintree.

๐Ÿ‘€ You get the idea - it could easily happen in your community.

How can you help?
๐Ÿ“ž If you spot a fire please call 999 quickly, to prevent it from spreading in these hot and dry conditions.
๐Ÿ“ฑ If youโ€™re in a rural spot, using a free app like What3Words can help us find the spot quickly- consider downloading it now just in case you need it.
๐Ÿ™Œ Please take extra care when out and about this weekend enjoying Norfolkโ€™s beautiful countryside.
๐Ÿ“ข Share this message so we can reach more people.

Thank you, and have a lovely weekend. โญ
