Warning - Cuteness Overload!!
At 0500 this morning whilst out for an early morning walk one of our volunteer crew heard and saw a fox cub fall into the river. Unable to swim nor get out by itself our crew member was concerned members of the public would enter the water risking themselves to rescue it. Instead he grabbed his rescue kit, swam out and recovered the little cub to the shore. A lady has taken it to be checked over before release and we understand he or she is doing well!

This is an incredibly important message. Given the forecast for hot weather over the weekend, please share far and wide!
We’re sharing ’s campaign encouraging people to Speak Up if their mates are putting themselves at risk around water.
If you have young people in your life who are tempted to cool down in open water this summer, remind them: it’s not as safe as it looks.
Calm water can hide strong currents, submerged objects, and cold water shock can take hold in seconds.
No one wants to lose a friend. A quick conversation could make all the difference.
✔ Talk about the risks
✔ Make sure they know what to do in an emergency:
➡ Don’t enter the water
➡ Call 999 and ask for Fire and Rescue (or Coastguard at the coast)
➡ Encourage the person to float
➡ Throw something that could help them stay afloat
Look out for each other. Speak up. Be a mate.

🚨 It only takes a moment. 🚨
As part of Drowning Prevention Week, we're asking everyone to take a few minutes to learn something that could save a life.
Every year, lives are lost in preventable water-related incidents. Whether you're walking along the river, enjoying a day out with family, fishing, boating, or simply passing by the water, understanding the risks can make all the difference.
💙 Remember:
✔️ Keep children close and away from the water.
✔️ Avoid alcohol around water.
✔️ Never enter the water to rescue someone.
✔️ In an emergency, call 999 and ask for the fire service.
✔️ If you unexpectedly enter the water, Float to Live – tilt your head back, relax, and control your breathing.
At York Rescue Boat, our volunteers are on the water year-round, but prevention is always better than rescue.
👉 Please take a moment to share this post. You never know who might see it, remember it, and use this advice when it matters most.
Together, we can help prevent drownings and keep our community safe.
