Yesterday (Sunday) was a cracker at La Vallette cafe - dozens of happy customers and enough warmth in the kitchen to keep me toasty-warm in a t-shirt and shorts.

So for my mid-shift break I did what every loopy sea swimmer would do - I jumped headlong into the chilly Ladies’ Pool and knocked out a quick 10 lengths or thereabouts. Just enough before my appendages became frosticles.

Or so I thought. Because according to my flippin’ misfiring watch, I managed to swim a magnificent… 2 metres…

I would probably have recorded more if I’d just laid down on the chilly concrete and rolled over a couple of times.

Maybe the cold affected the inner workings of the watch. Who knows?

Anyway, it was noticeable how much the temperature is dropping, and the word I heard several times back in the cafe was, well, can you guess…?

So in honour of that, here’s another winter-themed design.

As always, if you fancy it on a sweatshirt or hoodie, let me know and I’ll add that to the colllection.

Big warm love,
xx

The good news is that days have started getting longer again.

The bad news is that the extra minutes of daylight mean you can see just how blue your appendages and extremities have turned in the f-f-f-freezing water.

One of the best pieces of advice I was given - and am always keen to pass on to new winter swimmers - is: get dry fast, and get layers on fast.

Loads of layers.

Don’t rely on only a dry robe. Layers, layers and more layers. Trap air next to your body that will insulate you and help minimise after-drop.

Sounds a bit strange as I’ve recently joined the GSAS group that’s looking to slim down and tone up for the new year, but I’m lucky to be “blessed” with a chunky body shape that means I feel the cold less than many other mortals.

Even so, after a swim I’ll be wearing two or three t-shirts, a fleece or hoodie, maybe a body warmer, and then a dry robe over all that.

”But TalcMan, where can I find a winter sea-swimming-themed t-shirt?” I hear you ask.

Well, funny you should say that, because I just happen to have a few up my sleeve.

Have a look, maybe choose a size bigger than usual so you can layer them on top of each other.

And, as always, if you fancy a different size or colour, or want a sweatshirt or a hoodie instead of a t-shirt, drop me a line and I’ll do what I can to sort that for you.

Stay warm,

Big love,
Xx

Three of my favourite “go-to” landmarks (seamarks? wavemarks?) in Havelet Bay.

Freya and Bertie are always worth a slap when doing a circuit, and while Rowers is now orange, the spirit of the old, painted bobber / fender lives on.

Photos taken by yours truly during several of my many trips around my local bay.

Available as white t-shirts in sizes XS to XXL, as well as vests, sweatshirts, hoodies and mugs.

Where you headed to next?

Many of you may know already, but when I’m not devising weird and wonderful t-shirt designs I’m an avid word-fiddler.

I love playing with language; all my life it’s been my main focus.

Down the years I’ve also picked up a few nicknames. My latest comes from my post-swim drying routine.

So I thought, why not combine all those…? And this is the result. Pretty good, I reckon. :-)

Want to see your (or someone else’s) name / nickname immortalised on a t-shirt / hoodie / sweatshirt / mug?

Drop me a line, tell me a bit about yourself (or the other person) and let’s see what happens.

Big love,
x
