Equine Heat Stress

Heat stress in horses; signs every owner should watch for!

If you notice any of these signs, stop exercise immediately, move your horse to a shaded, cool area, and begin cooling with applications of copious quantities of water, while seeking veterinary advice.

Severe heat stress can escalate quickly and early action makes a significant difference.

Working around horses every day, it’s easy to forget just how unpredictable even the calmest horse can be. One sudden movement, spook, or kick can cause serious head injuries in seconds.

That’s why wearing a hard hat or riding helmet when handling, examining, treating, or riding horses is so important for vets, nurses, students, owners, and handlers alike.

Protecting your head could save your life.

At our practice, safety around horses is something we take seriously, and we encourage everyone working with horses to make helmets part of their everyday routine. 🐴
