FALEFALE
Artist Statement
FALEFALE is a mobile installation that warns of the escalating dangers of plastic waste and how it poisons oceans, destroys marine life, and ultimately threatens human survival. As an experimental fashion artist, I transform discarded plastics and textiles into vessels of memory, beauty, and caution. This process connects my background in tailoring and hand-stitching with community-based artmaking in Accra’s Osu neighbourhood, where I work with children and young people to collect, repurpose, and create. Together, we reimagine waste as a site of resilience and possibility.
Responding to the Chale Wote 2025 theme, “The Orbs Beneath the Nile Lead to Kongo,” FALEFALE asks: What hidden wisdom lies in what we discard? This work arrives as both a warning and an invitation: to rethink consumption, recover what has been lost, and imagine new futures of sustainability and care.
