Last week, Victoria Kuzorli had the privilege of representing ACEYE at a Stakeholder Validation Workshop held on 25–26 March in Dakar, Senegal, hosted by the Centre on African Philanthropy and Social Investment (CAPSI). The workshop brought together stakeholders to validate findings from the quantitative phase of the research project on the Contribution of Non-profits to Providing Dignified and Fulfilling Jobs for the Youth, and the conversations that unfolded were as important as the research itself.

The findings that were presented revealed patterns across regions on the continent. The research examines both the direct employment nonprofits provide and their indirect contributions through training, entrepreneurship support, scholarships, and microfinance, painting a fuller picture of just how deeply the sector is woven into the youth employment landscape. This research is beginning to give that quiet but critical contribution the visibility it deserves.

The workshop also opened critical conversations about who is still being left behind, that is refugees, internally displaced persons, and other vulnerable groups. With the quantitative phase now validated, we look forward with great anticipation to the qualitative phase of this research. The numbers have told us what is happening, and we hope the next phase will help us understand why, and more importantly, what we must do about it.

At ACEYE, these conversations go to the heart of our mandate. We exist to bridge the gap between where policy is and where it needs to be, championing entrepreneurship and the policies that shape the entrepreneurial environment for an inclusive, sustainable, and dignified work for every young African.
