The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) joins the global community in observing Maternal and Child Health Month, reaffirming its commitment to improving the health and well-being of mothers and children.

NHIA Strengthens Awareness Creation on Antenatal and Maternal Health

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Corporate Affairs Directorate, Provider and Client Relations team embarked on working visits to selected major credentialled healthcare facilities, creating awareness on antenatal and maternal healthcare services covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

The objective is to highlight the importance of early and regular visits, birth preparedness, and recognizing danger signs during pregnancy to ensure a safe delivery for both mother and child.

The Corporate Affairs Provider and Client Relations unit Head, Acting Deputy Director, Ms. Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu led the outreach which commenced at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital at Mampong in the Akuapem North District of the Eastern Region.

According to Ms. Hamdiya, the proactive community engagement on antenatal care and maternal health is vital for reducing maternal and infant mortality.

The Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital Medical Superintendent, Dr. Kofi Ablorh was satisfied with the team’s visit and the mutual discussions, which concentrated on rebuilding public trust in the NHIS.

The NHIS Akuapem North District Office management supported the Head Office team comprising the Membership and Regional Operations Acting Deputy Director, Mercy Wiredua Awuah, Client Relations Senior Manager, Judge Opoku Sarkodie, Client Relations Manager, Isaac Boamah Darko, Client Relations Senior Officer, Lucy Turkson-Cofie, Client Relations Senior Officer, Renny Abeka Quartey, Client Relations Officer, Fred Okine Junior, and Public Relations Officer, Ransford Nyakotey.
