Every mission needs a heartbeat and at Songtaba, Miss Zeckia Lahri Tahiru Dasana is undeniably one of ours.

As a Programme Officer, Zeckia brings more than to her work - she brings fire 🔥. Her passion for community development is not something you find in a job description; it is something you witness in the field, in the meetings, in the results that speak for themselves.

Across our rural and our operational areas, the lives touched by her work are a testament to what happens when true dedication meets purpose. For Miss Zeckia, she doesn’t just implement programmes - she invests in young girls and women, believes in their potential, and stays committed to seeing transformation happen.

*𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲*

From 1st–5th June, the Executive Director of Songtaba, Hajia Lamnatu Adam, participated in a five-day workshop on *Civilian Security Engagement in the Prevention of Violent Extremism*, organized by the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre, National Peace Council and Catholic Relief Services.

The brought together security experts, from the various security agencies, civil society actors, and media practitioners to explore collaborative approaches to preventing violent extremism and promoting community .

Participation in this training has enhanced her knowledge and understanding of civilian-centered security approaches, multi-stakeholder collaboration, conflict prevention and strategies.

The insights gained will further strengthen our organization's efforts in promoting social cohesion, community , advocacy and sustainable peace initiatives within the communities we serve.

The workshop also provided a valuable platform for and experience sharing with key actors in the peace and security sector, creating opportunities for stronger and collective action in addressing emerging security challenges.

We remain committed to building , inclusive, and resilient communities through informed leadership and strategic engagement.

📢 𝐆𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐀’𝐬 𝐍𝐔𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐃𝐄𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆

Ghana has made bold international pledges to end malnutrition through the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit commitments and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - yet Maternal and Child Nutrition (MCN) remains chronically underfunded domestically.

A look at Ghana’s track record tells the story:
🔹 2013 - Ghana signed the first N4G Compact in London, committing to scale up nutrition financing
🔹 2021 - Ghana renewed pledges at the Tokyo N4G (Nutrition 4 Growth) Summit, promising to reduce stunting and wasting among children under 5
🔹 2022 - Ghana endorsed the African Union’s Agenda 2063 nutrition targets, reinforcing its continental accountability
🔹 2025 - At the Paris N4G Summit, Ghana again committed to mobilising domestic resources for nutrition

Despite these milestones, MCN budget allocations remain far below the levels needed to translate commitment into impact for mothers and children - particularly in the Northern Region.

Increasing MCN funding is not a request. It is a fulfilment of promises Ghana has already made to the world.

Songtaba stands with its partners including the Eleanor Crook Foundation, GAND, CAPHA, and Ghana Public Health Association - in calling on the Ministry of Health to match words with investment.
