💻 We’ve been a bit quiet on social media lately… mainly because we’ve been busy onboarding and supporting new businesses 👨‍💻

And during that time, we’ve seen a common pattern:

⚠ Weak cyber security
⚠ Poor WiFi and network setups

⚠ Businesses relying on reactive IT support

The good news? These problems can usually be fixed before they become serious issues.

At The IT Lab, we help small and medium-sized businesses with:

✅ Cyber Security
✅ Microsoft 365
✅ Networking & WiFi

💻 Thinking about changing IT providers?

A good MSP onboarding process should be more than just switching who you call for support.

At The IT Lab, we carry out full reviews of:

🔐 Cyber security
📧 Microsoft 365
💾 Backups
🌐 Networks & WiFi
🛡 Firewalls
👥 User access and permissions

Why? Because we often uncover hidden risks businesses didn’t even know existed 👀

Things like:
⚠ Weak security settings
⚠ No MFA enabled
⚠ Backups not properly monitored
⚠ Guest WiFi connected to the main business network

Good IT support starts with getting the foundations right.

🔐 Cyber Essentials has changed — and it’s important to know what that means for your business.

As of this week (27th April 2026), Cyber Essentials version 3.3 is now in effect — and the requirements have clearly stepped up.

If your business is already certified, the standards you met last year may no longer be enough.

Here’s what’s changed:

➡ MFA is now expected wherever available — not just for admin accounts. Missing it in key areas could result in a fail.

➡ Cloud services are fully in scope — including Microsoft 365, CRMs, finance platforms, and more.

➡ Patching must be evidenced within 14 days — it’s no longer enough to assume systems are up to date.

➡ BYOD and remote working devices are included unless there’s a clear and justified exclusion.

➡ Cyber Essentials Plus is stricter — failed samples can now trigger additional testing, and repeated failures may result in certification being withdrawn.

💡 What does this mean in practice?

Many small and medium-sized businesses haven’t significantly changed their IT setup over the past year — but the requirements have.

That creates a gap between where your security is today and what’s now expected for certification.

At The IT Lab, we’re already helping businesses review their environments against the new standard — identifying gaps early and avoiding surprises during renewal.

📩 If your Cyber Essentials renewal is coming up, now is the time to review your setup properly.
