Omission of the Infinitive:
TO as 'a' sign of the Infinitive is omitted:
(a) After such verbs as behold,bid,feel,hear,know, let,make,please, see and watch ,in the Active voice :
-I made him do this.
(b) After such phrases as had rather, had Better,had sooner,had as soon as:
- You had better keep quiet.
- You had rather work than sit idle.
(c) After but,except and than:
- He did nothing but sing.
- He is more willing to obey than command.
(a) ''TO'' is not omitted after DARE and NEED,if these verbs are affirmative, but is omitted if they are negative.
-You need to go there.You need not go there.
- He dared to go alone.He dared not go alone.
(b) ''TO'' is not omitted after DARE and NEED ,even if they happen to be negative verbs provided they are preceded by auxiliaries:
