On June 25, 2026, the NKUA School of Medicine successfully hosted the event "Discovering the Museum and the First Department of Pathology", highlighting the rich history and enduring contribution of these two landmark academic institutions to medical education, research, and clinical practice.
The event was opened by Professor Gerasimos Siasos, Rector of NKUA, Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos, Dean of the School of Medicine, and Professor Nikolaos Thomaidis, President of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE), who emphasized the importance of preserving the University's academic heritage.
Distinguished faculty members presented the historical evolution of pathology, the unique collections of the Museum of Pathology, and the discipline's fundamental role in advancing modern medicine.
The event celebrated the School's longstanding tradition of excellence and reaffirmed the vital role of pathology as a cornerstone of medical education and scientific discovery.

NKUA School of Medicine at the 3rd National Congress on Metabolic Diseases and Chronic Conditions
The 3rd National Congress on Metabolic Diseases and Chronic Conditions took place in Syros, Greece, from June 12–14, 2026, bringing together healthcare professionals and researchers to discuss current challenges in public health and chronic disease management.
Professor Nikolaos Arkadopoulos, Dean of the NKUA School of Medicine, delivered the opening lecture entitled “The Bidirectional Relationship Between Public Health and Demographic Change.” His presentation highlighted the close connection between demographic trends and public health, emphasizing the need for healthcare systems and medical education to adapt to emerging societal challenges.
Professor Arkadopoulos also underscored the important role of the NKUA School of Medicine in advancing research, education, and innovation in public health, while congratulating Associate Professor Panagiotis Chalvatsiotis, Chair of the Organizing Committee, for his valuable contribution to continuing medical education and healthcare.
