Η διάταση (πρήξιμο) των τενόντιων ελύτρων ΔΕΝ είναι διάγνωση. Είναι ένα εύρημα που χρειάζεται διερεύνηση.

⚠️ Πίσω από μια διόγκωση μπορεί να κρύβονται βλάβες τενόντων, προβλήματα συνδέσμων ή άλλες παθολογικές καταστάσεις.

🔬Η Contrast Tenography (ακτινογραφική εξέταση με χρήση σκιαγραφικού μέσου) είναι μια πολύ χρήσιμη τεχνική που πραγματοποιείται στο στάβλο και μας βοηθά να «δούμε» το εσωτερικό του ελύτρου, εντοπίζοντας πιθανές βλάβες που δεν είναι πάντα εμφανείς στον υπέρηχο.

Η σωστή θεραπεία ξεκινά από τη σωστή διάγνωση — όχι απλώς από την αντιμετώπιση της διόγκωσης.

A swollen tendon sheath is not a diagnosis. It is a clue.

Many horse owners notice a soft swelling around the fetlock and are told that it is "just fluid" or "just inflammation".
But a swollen digital flexor tendon sheath is not a diagnosis.

The swelling may be associated with:
✔ Tendon lesions
✔ Annular ligament problems
✔ Tears of internal structures
✔ Chronic inflammatory conditions

This is why simply trying supplements or anti-inflammatory products without a proper diagnosis may not address the real cause.

🔬 Contrast Tenography is a diagnostic imaging technique that allows us to evaluate the inside of the tendon sheath by injecting a contrast medium and taking radiographs.
The examination can help identify abnormalities that may not be clearly visible with routine imaging alone and provides valuable information when investigating chronic tendon sheath distension.

📌 Πότε συνιστάται;
✔ Σε αθλητικά άλογα και άλογα υψηλών απαιτήσεων
✔ Πριν από την έναρξη ή επιστροφή σε έντονη εργασία
✔ Σε μειωμένη απόδοση ή εύκολη κόπωση
✔ Σε λιποθυμικά επεισόδια / collapse
✔ Όταν ακούγεται φύσημα ή αρρυθμία
✔ Προληπτικά σε μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας άλογα

⚠️ Παθολογικές καταστάσεις που μπορεί να εντοπιστούν:
• Κολπική μαρμαρυγή
• Άλλες αρρυθμίες
• Βαλβιδικές ανεπάρκειες
• Καρδιομεγαλία
• Συγγενείς ανωμαλίες (σε ορισμένες περιπτώσεις)

Assessing the cardiovascular system can help detect conditions that may affect a horse’s health, athletic performance, and safety.

🔎 A complete cardiology work-up may include:
• Clinical examination and auscultation
• Electrocardiography (ECG)
• Echocardiography (cardiac ultrasound)
• Evaluation of murmurs and arrhythmias

📌 When is it recommended?
✔ Performance and sport horses
✔ Before starting or returning to intense exercise
✔ Reduced performance or exercise intolerance
✔ Collapse or fainting episodes
✔ Presence of murmur or irregular rhythm
✔ Preventive screening in older horses

⚠️ Conditions that may be detected:
• Atrial fibrillation
• Other arrhythmias
• Valvular insufficiencies
• Cardiac enlargement
• Congenital abnormalities (in selected cases)
