Happy International Jazz Day
Happy indeed, to the music I loved first above all. To that overplayed record by Ella Fitzgerald and the Nina Simone cassette gifted to me as a child, which made me want to sing and play piano. To the music that led me, hand in hand, to pursue my classical music education - it was those Gershwin’s preludes and my jazz piano teacher's analysis of Satie's works that are to blame.. - the music that “raised” me in that dark jazz club Parafono, with all those stories, those idiosyncratic regulars, and the countless ever shifting cast of voices and musical personalities.

Oh! Happy Day to everyone who loves this music, its musicians, its freedom and its discipline, the textures and narratives, and to all those who may not “play” it, but carry it in their blood and breathe it out through their own creations.

Thank you once again to the Athens Jazz Festival for that wonderful opportunity that evening. I simply can't wait for this year’s festival !!
