BIO

I am Shafigheh Qias, born in Afghanistan and grew up in Iran. I have been living in Athens, Greece for the past year and a half waiting for my asylum case to be granted. I remember, the first cloth I designed back in Iran was a long “manteau” (shapeless coat or coat dress) I sewed for myself. My mother taught me how to tailor from a young age. I began by sewing clothes for the tailor workshops of our neighborhood, while also creating traditional Baluch folklore embroideries for myself. I attended lessons of embroidery in a private school. I worked for two famous Iranian fashion designers. After a few years, I started to run my own private business from home.

We can create even out of destruction and with minimal material. A good fabric should never be thrown away. I love to create and give a piece of fabric new life. Even old fabrics can be made into something. When I create something new, I gave life to it. I have the power to change something for better.
