Think Athens goes to sleep after a hot summer day? Quite the opposite.
This is when the city really comes alive.
A few local tips…
• Forget early dinners. In Athens, 9:30 or 10:00 pm is the perfect time to sit down. At 7:30 pm, you may have the restaurant almost to yourself. Try Krabo, Ark, Moorings, or a seafood taverna in Mikrolimano.
• Take a sunset stroll around Astir Marina, then continue along the waterfront of Vouliagmeni and Kavouri. The sea breeze arrives, the yachts are glowing, and suddenly everyone is outside enjoying the evening.
• Trade your hotel room for an open-air cinema. Cine Paris in Plaka offers a classic Athenian summer experience with the Acropolis as a backdrop, while Thision Open Air Cinema is a favourite for its magical atmosphere.
• Don’t be surprised to see children enjoying gelato at 11:00 pm while their parents are still deciding whether to order dessert. In Greece, bedtime goes on holiday for the summer.
The secret to Athens in summer? Don’t plan early mornings. Plan great evenings instead.

The Kind of Restaurant You Drive Hours For
Not every great meal is five minutes from your hotel.
Some are at the end of a winding road, in a tiny village, or overlooking a bay you’ve never heard of.
And somehow, those are often the ones to remember.
A few of the best meals in Greece require a detour.
And nobody complains.
FERRYMAN, Elounda, Crete
A waterfront table, the lights of Elounda reflecting on the water, and dishes that let excellent ingredients speak for themselves. The kind of restaurant where conversations become longer with every course.
Siparos Seaside Restaurant, Paros
One of those rare places that manages to be stylish without trying too hard. The sea is right there, the sunset does most of the decorating, and the atmosphere feels effortlessly summer. Arrive before golden hour and don’t make dinner plans afterwards.
Yioryitsa’s Backyard, Mani, Peloponnese
Hidden among olive trees and stone houses, this is the Peloponnese at its best. Relaxed, generous and completely unpretentious. You arrive for dinner and leave feeling as if you’ve been invited to somebody’s family gathering.
A useful Greek dining tip:
If the road feels a little too narrow, a little too winding, and you start wondering whether you’ve made a wrong turn...
You’re probably heading somewhere good.

Greek Hotels with Terraces Worth Missing Breakfast For
A few places in Greece make you want to cancel your plans, order another coffee, and stay exactly where you are.
Phāea Blue, Crete – overlooking the island of Spinalonga and the deep blue waters of Mirabello Bay, these terraces are made for long, slow mornings. Fresh Greek coffee, the sound of fishing boats in the distance, and a view that has barely changed for centuries.
Canaves Oia Suites, Santorini – perched above the famous caldera, with whitewashed houses cascading down the cliffs below. From sunrise to the last light of the evening, there is always something to watch: sailing yachts, cruise ships, or the changing colours of the volcanic landscape.
Eagles Villas, Halkidiki – spacious private terraces surrounded by pine-covered hills and endless sea views. The kind of place where a quick break before dinner easily turns into two hours of doing absolutely nothing.
Kalesma Mykonos – designed to feel like a private Cycladic home, with generous terraces overlooking Ornos Bay. Early mornings are wonderfully quiet, while evenings bring some of the most beautiful sunsets on the island.
Sometimes the best part of a Greek summer is not the beach, the yacht or the sightseeing.
It’s finding a terrace you never want to leave. Which one is yours?
