Prof. Sebastian Cotofana
Sebastian Cotofana MD, Ph.D, Ph.D | Anatomist | Professor I Doctor | Researcher I Global Speaker
It was a pleasure to lecture in person for the first time at the FACES Congress ( ) in Lima, Peru. Sharing the latest research updates on toxin injections and filler safety with a large audience, alongside a stellar international faculty, was a wonderful experience.
However, the day before the congress was my personal highlight. Cotofana Anatomy, in collaboration with the FACES organizing team, planned and delivered The Aesthetics Masterclass. Together with my dear friends and colleagues from Latin America from Brazil, from Costa Rica, from Argentina, and from Uruguay, we performed LIVE injections, LIVE ultrasound, LIVE patient assessments, and detailed anatomical correlations for a selected audience.
It was a special event, and I would like to thank everyone for the engaging discussions and thoughtful questions. It is inspiring to see such enthusiasm for advanced anatomical education and to witness the sparkle in the audience’s eyes when that mental “click” happens, the moment they realize how anatomy can guide safer and better clinical outcomes.
¡Muchas gracias a todos!

After publishing MRI data on glabellar muscles (1. Study), and after evaluating the influence of the same 3-point injection technique on glabellar rhytids (2. Study), we are happy to share our new study on the 5-point injection technique and glabellar rhytids (3. Study).
We injected a total of n = 125 patients with 20 I.U. of toxins (approved reconstitution volume) with the same 5-point injection technique independent of their age, BMI, Fitzpatrick skin type, or Glabellar contraction pattern and analyzed the outcome at 90 Days. Multivariate analyses revealed that all patients had a significant reduction in their glabellar severity scale without difference between groups. Despite not clinically meaningful, age and BMI statistically significantly influenced glabellar wrinkle severity: age = slightly worse outcome; BMI = slightly better outcome. Fitzpatrick skin type and glabellar contraction pattern did not influence the outcome on a statistically significant level.
These results show that if we want to reduce wrinkle severity the correct anatomic location of muscles is most relevant for achieving good clinical outcomes. Demographic factors might slightly alter the outcome but may not be of clinical meaningfulness; at least not as much as is the correct placement of the product into the muscle bellies.
For most of you, these results are (again) just confirmatory, like it was for the 3-point publication. But it is good to have confirmation and scientific evidence for what matters most. Anatomy is the key and will provide you with confidence when applied correctly.
Thank you to my dear Brazilian colleagues and co-authors for conducting this multicentric, international, injection-based, clinical investigation.
