On the history's first Olympic Torch is clearly engraved "* ALS DANK DEM TRÄGER */ ORGANISATIONS-KOMITEE FÜR DIE XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936", (* AS THANKS TO THE BEARER * / ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITTEE FOR THE XI. OLYMPICS BERLIN 1936). And that's how an old tradition began! From the very first Olympic Torch Relay it became a custom, after the run the used torch to be given as a thankful gift to the torchbearer. On the photos Berlin's 1936 Olympic Torch with the extremely rare remains of the magnesium stick that was used as burning material during the Torch Relay. Also a photo from the Greek leg of the 1936 Olympic Torch Relay with several Torchbearers holding their torches after their participation in the relay. Today, the Torchbearers on Greek soil still receive the Torches as a gift in contrast to those who participate in the Torch Relay in the Games organizing country of who have the right to keep their Torches by paying the relevant price. At the Torch Relay of Athens 2004 happened the exact opposite, the Greek Torchbearers paid for their Torch while the Torch Runners outside Greece the Torches were given as gifts! Στην πρώτη Ολυμπιακή Δάδα της ιστορίας είναι χαραγμένο ευκρινώς "* ALS DANK DEM TRÄGER * / ORGANIZATIONS-KOMITEE FÜR DIE XI. OLYMPIADE BERLIN 1936", (*ΜΕ ΤΙΣ ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΕΙΕΣ ΜΑΣ ΣΤΟΝ ΦΕΡΟΝΤΑ * / ΟΡΓΑΝΩΤΙΚΗ ΕΠΙΤΡΟΠΗ ΓΙΑ ΤΟΥΣ XI. ΟΛΥΜΙΑΚΟΥΣ ΑΓΩΝΕΣ ΒΕΡΟΛΙΝΟ 1936). Έτσι ξεκίνησε μια παλιά παράδοση που εν μέρει κρατά ως τις μέρες μας! Από την πρώτη Ολυμπιακή Λαμπαδηδρομία έγινε έθιμο, μετά την διαδρομή, η χρησιμοποιημένη Δάδα να δίνεται ως δώρο ευγνωμοσύνης στον Λαμπαδηδρόμο. Στις φωτογραφίες η Ολυμπιακή Δάδα του Βερολίνου το 1936 με το εξαιρετικά σπάνιο υπόλειμμα της ραβδιού μαγνησίου που χρησιμοποιήθηκε ως υλικό καύσης κατά τη διάρκεια της Λαμπαδηδρομίας. Επίσης, μια φωτογραφία από το ελληνικό τμήμα της Ολυμπιακής Λαμπαδηδρομίας του 1936 με αρκετούς Λαμπαδηδρόμους να κρατούν τους Δάδες τους αμέσως μετά τη συμμετοχή τους. Σήμερα οι Λαμπαδηδρόμοι επί Ελληνικού εδάφους εξακολουθούν να λαμβάνουν τις Δάδες ως δώρο σε αντίθεση με αυτούς που συμμετέχουν στην Λαμπαδηδρομία στην χώρα διεξαγωγής των Αγώνων οι οποίοι έχουν το δικαίωμα να κρατήσουν την Δάδα τους πληρώνοντας το σχετικό αντίτιμο. Στην Λαμπαδηδρομία της Αθήνας 2004 συνέβη ακριβώς το αντίθετο οι Έλληνες Λαμπαδηδρόμοι πλήρωσαν για την Δάδα τους ενώ για τους Λαμπαδηδρόμους εκτός Ελλάδας η Δάδα δόθηκε δωρεάν!
