Back in Athens today... and this is what compassion looks like. 🐾

Every day in the Athens suburb of Zefyri, Maria Chrusikopoulou heads out to care for animals that have nobody else.

Thirty stray cats.
Ten stray dogs.
Forty lives depending on one dedicated volunteer.

Food is only part of what they need. During the summer, fleas, ticks and other parasites can cause painful suffering and spread serious diseases. Thanks to GAR supporters, Maria has been able to protect every one of these animals through our Summer Parasite Prevention Programme.

She sent us this message: "Thank you very much for your precious help. Thanks to you, many stray cats and dogs will have a better quality of life."

For most of us, applying a parasite treatment takes seconds.

For a stray animal, it can mean relief from constant irritation, protection from disease and a healthier, more comfortable life. This is only possible because people like Maria never stop caring, and because GAR supporters make sure help reaches the volunteers on the front line.

On Tuesday we shared one way we're building a better future for Greece's strays through neutering. Today is a reminder that thousands of animals still need help right now.

That's why we do both.

One of the things we love most about this event is getting the chance to meet so many of our supporters face to face. Throughout the year we're connected by messages, emails, donations, adoptions and shared concern for the animals of Greece, but next Sunday we get to come together in person.

From Megara to Canada – Little Boef's Journey 🇬🇷❤️🇨🇦

Meet Boef, rescued during the Megara Spayathon, west of Athens, which we supported.

While caring for him, Nena Ververoglou noticed that something wasn't right with one of his eyes. After specialist assessment and treatment, it became clear that the affected eye could not be saved and would need to be removed to relieve his pain and prevent further complications.

Greek Animal Rescue was pleased to cover the cost of Boef's surgery, ensuring he received the care he needed.

As these photos show, Boef hasn't let the loss of an eye slow him down one bit. Dogs are incredibly adaptable, and he has embraced life with his usual enthusiasm and charm.

Today, Boef is safely settled in his forever home in Canada, where a wonderful new chapter has begun. 🇨🇦

A huge thank you to Nena for recognising that Boef needed help and making sure he received the treatment he deserved. And thank you to all GAR supporters whose generosity makes stories like this possible.

From a stray dog in Megara to a much-loved family member on the other side of the world – that's quite a journey.
