Did you know that Halloween is more Irish than St. Patrick’s Day?
The origins of Halloween date back to the ancient Celtic celebration of Samhain, a new year and harvest festival. Celts believed that, on this night, spirits and demons roamed the streets. To appease these otherworldly visitors, people dressed in masks, to avoid being noticed as humans, and left food at their doors as an offering. Thus, Halloween was born!
Although this celebration began in ancient times, the first official record of trick-or-treating can be dated back to 1927 in Alberta, Canada.
